What's New
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE 9/28/05On behalf of everyone at Independent Electric Supply, we would like to thank all of those who participated in the IES 2005 Annual Golf Tournament. As you may or may not know, this year Independent sponsored an event called Big Easy Par Threesy on the 7th hole. This event was designed to raise some much needed money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. We agreed to donate $10.00 for every tee shot that hit the green and $25.00 for every tee shot that landed within the 20 foot radius of the pin. Independent Electric Supply, Inc. is pleased to announce that the fantastic field of our customers, vendors, and friends hit the green to the tune of $1200.00, which IES is glad to donate to the American Red Cross. Prior to the tournament we contacted various people and solicited support by having their companies match funds. We had an overwhelming response and with the matching donations our little group, within our little industry will be sending the American Red Cross a cumulative total of $14,400.00. Donations can be made on line (www.redcross.org) or by mail to:
INDEPENDENT ELECTRIC MAKES THE 'TOP 20' 9/8/05In the last issue of Inside Independent our President Jack Phelan told of our making the Top 20 Electrical Distributors in the US according to Electrical Wholesaling Magazine. An honor we have been striving for the past thirty years comes to fruitition. How did this happen? In a word the employees, suppliers, and customers we have had the privilege to serve these past 30 years made it possible. Employees have made us what we are today. It’s the dedicated teamwork of roughly 450 people we have now from our humble beginnings of 9 in 1976. We are so glad that all our employees got to share financially in this growth from one million dollars in sales to over $330 million this year. The owners of this company (the employees) can be very proud of the foundation they have built to carry this company to even greater heights. Why not #15 in the near future? With our suppliers and customers and your hard work, I know it can happen. Let’s face it—we must grow or else we become stagnant—that is not for us. With the constant dedication of all IES employees, Independent will always remain as one of the top distributors in the United States.
IUS, THE NEW DIVISION OF INDEPENDENT 5/1/05Independent continues to spring forward with the launch of our new underground utility products division called Independent Utility Supply. While this is a new startup venture, the employees that have joined the IES family have over two-hundred years combined experience working in the underground utility market. Led by Dale Krech, General Manager and Rich Fife, Operations Manager, IUS has over twenty new faces working at three locations: 44650 S. Grimmer Blvd. in Fremont reopened and looks better than ever, a new building completely cleaned and furnished at 4076 Channel Drive, West Sacramento and a third location still under construction, but operating with three people from a temporary trailer at 115 Larch Road in Tracy, CA. Independent Utility Supply provides all of the underground material necessary to provide electric, gas and phone service to many housing tracts and commercial developments being constructed in California. Operating from two very large yards with the ability to handle forty foot tractor trailers, most product is sold through stock with underground pipe, pad mounted transformers and large reels of wire - up to 1100 MCM being staged for various projects. Most IUS customers are companies that dig the trenches into which is placed the large diameter pipe through which the electrical wire, gas lines and telephone lines will be placed to provide these vital services to the homeowners. This is the very first step in the new construction process; hence, most of the veteran IUS staff refer to themselves as "dirt guys." Tom Massip, VP Northern California, Susan Walker, Corporate Operations, and Marcus Bannerman, IT Special Operations, have been managing the launch effort to prepare facilities and bring on the staff for the new division. As of this writing, several orders have already been written and business is brisk in the very first month of operation. RIVERSIDE, CA 4/20/05After two and a half years of planning, it has finally happened. Independent's newest branch in the long list of locations is now open for business. The contractor base of almost 600 potential customers assures us this location is the right choice. With over sixteen thousand square feet of warehouse space, a six thousand square foot yard, four loading docks and remodeled offices, Independent Riverside is a showcase facility. In addition, we have carefully selected a high quality team whose experience and knowledge of the local market will make us a strong, competitive player in Southern California. We are hosting our Grand Opening on Tuesday, April 26th from 11:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. We will be serving Santa Maria style tri-tip and lemon marinated chicken with all the fixings. There will be music, raffles and over forty different vendors and manufacturers for our customers to meet. We invite you to join us for a great day! |
